National Leaders of Governance (NLGs)
National Leaders of Governance (NLGs) are designated by the National College of Teaching and Leadership. They are experienced Chairs of Governors who can provide independent and impartial support and advice to Chairs and Governors in other schools.
The NLG programme is part of the government’s plan to give schools a central role in developing a self-improving and sustainable model of school led system.
Typical activities include, but are not limited to:
- external reviews of governance - click here for more information
- coaching and mentoring
- reviewing the responsibilities of the governing body
- action planning
- supporting academy conversion
- advising on reviewing headteacher performance.
This can be through phone calls and email correspondance, through face to face meetings or attendance by the NLG at governor meetings.
The cost of support from a NLG will be agreed between the school and the NLG.
